Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
College & Electric Youth - A Real Hero
Continuing on with my campaign to blatantly use the Cannes Film Festival as a reason to profile some great movie music. Today’s tune posted here is taken from Drive and is College & Electric Youth’s perfectly pitched electro tune “Real Hero”
For those not familiar with the film, the now ubiquitous Ryan Gosling turns from loner to love crazed psycho mob killer in 90 minutes and boy does he do it with panache. Probably a boy film this and if you are one… i.e not a girl, then you need to see it.
The films was scored by former Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Cliff Martinez and for me, it’s pretty faultless.
Andy Williams - Happy Heart
In honour of the Cannes Film Festival and music in films generally, I bring you Andy Williams’ brilliantly smooth and loungeful tune “Happy Heart”. Taken from Danny Boyle’s exceptionally dark 1994 film Shallow Grave, this track runs over the end passages and is the soundscape which accompanies a smiling Ewan McGregor as he dies on top of the nefariously gained booty. BLEEDIN’ BRILLIANT!
Billy & Dolly (Bill Rousseau and Dahlia Gallin Ramirez), are due to self-release their excellent new album, Dally Bon Idyll on May 15th.
Recorded in partnership with producer/musician Jason Quever (Papercuts), The San Franciscan pair have produced an album of well crafted tunes that manages to combine some really beautiful pop melodies with delightful hooks and catchy riffs. On first listen to the album it’s impressive, on further plays it reveals itself as great.

Black Manila “Fiasco/England”
South London’s Black Manila are a three piece Garage/Psych band who have just released their new single “Fiasco” backed with the eight minute acoustic-grinder “England” as a free digital download.
Formed in 2010, the band released their debut 10” “Reno Rush”/”Happiness” in January last year, via Big Dirty Engine Records. Since then, they have toured France and Italy and have been busy in the studio writing and recording new material. The first fruits of their endeavours is this two track single produced by Selfish C*nt’s Patrick Constable.
Both tracks are available from their Soundcloud page here.
